Bears WR Brandon Marshall will wear green shoes on Thursday vs. Giants
Brandon Marshall, who was diagnosed with borderline personality disorder in 2011, plans to wear green shoes in Thursday night's game against the Giants to support Mental Awarness Week.
There will be a lot of pink on the field on Thursday night when the New York Giants play at Chicago, but if you look closely, you'll be able to see some green too. Bears wide receiver Brandon Marshall will be wearing green shoes against the Giants to show support for Mental Awareness Week.
Players are wearing pink for breast cancer awareness, so Marshall thought he would switch to green to support something that strikes close to home for him. Marshall was diagnosed with borderline personality disorder in 2011.
The NFL will most likely fine Marshall for his green shoes, according to NFL.com, but Marshall doesn't seem to mind, he plans to make the most of the situation by the matching the fine and donating that money to a cancer charity. That way he's supporting mental awareness and the people wearing pink.
"I'm going to get fined and I'm going to match that, and we want to partner with a cancer-care [charity]," Marshall said, via ESPN.com. "We're still working on the details to give, really give back to an organization that is doing work in the mental health area. [Also], the diagnosis of breast cancer can hit families hard. It affects all of us."
Marshall and his green shoes should see ample TV time on Thursday. The Bears second leading receiver will be going up against a Giants defense that's ranked 22nd in the NFL against the pass.
