The Bills have signed wide receiver Sammy Watkins, whom they traded up five spots to grab fourth overall in the NFL Draft earlier this month.

“It’s great just to put that behind you,” Watkins said minutes after signing, according to the team's website. “Just to know you have financial stability and now it’s just all football. Every day I can come in and worry about football, my plays and my job. Just worry about the connection of the offense and learning from the older guys. That’s what it’s about.”

Via Rotoworld, Watkins' four-year deal should be worth close to $20 million. Former agent Joel Corry tweeted on draft night that Watkins' signing bonus should be $12.6 million, and his 2014 compensation should come in at about $13 million.

“It’s definitely a blessing, but for me it’s to come in and perform,” he said. “Get the playbook down and get bonding with the quarterback and the offense. It’s a blessing, but I’ve got to move forward and perform now.”

In Buffalo, Watkins joins a wide receivers corps that includes Mike Williams, Robert Woods, Marquise Goodwin and T.J. Graham.

In the days following the draft, the Bills front office admitted that they tried to trade up to No. 1, presumably to grab Watkins, but were still able to land him at three spots later. History suggests that trading up isn't worth the cost, but Watkins was considered the best wide receiver in a deep draft class. And if he plays like it early in his NFL career, no one will remember how he ended up in Buffalo.
