The Bristol County Sheriff confirmed on Tuesday night that Aaron Hernandez was involved in an altercation on Tuesday while being held in jail.

The news was rumored early in the day with a report from TMZ. Bristol Sheriff Thomas Hodgson told WJAR-TV in Rhode Island that Hernandez was involved in an "altercation" at the Bristol County House of Corrections, but would not provide details.

Hodgson told the television station that Hernandez remains in segregated housing from the rest of the prison population while being held on a charge of murder. The 24-year-old former Patriots tight end pleaded "not guilty" to murder in the killing of 27-year-old Odin Lloyd

According to the sheriff, Hernandez and another inmate are part of an internal investigation into the altercation.

Hodgson would not comment on any specifics rumored about the altercation.
