Since he was a second-round pick of the Giants in the 2011 NFL Draft, defensive tackle Marvin Austin has played a total of 11 games for three different teams and has accumulated 10 career total tackles.
To say he has been a disappointment in the NFL would be a slight understatement.
But that didn't stop the Broncos from signing him to a contract, as the team announced Monday.
It seems likely he'll have to work hard to make the final roster, but Austin's talent has been lauded for many years after he made a national name for himself at North Carolina. The problem, though, has been that he was suspended for his senior season because the NCAA ruled he had accepted improper gifts from an agent, and since then, he's had to fight through a number of injuries in his professional career.
In all, he has played in just 11 football games, college and pro, since 2009.
But for the fourth time in four years, Austin has a chance to prove he can play consistently in the NFL. Perhaps he can do so with the Super Bowl runners-up who have so desperately tried to upgrade their defense this offseason.
