Browns ink Christian Kirksey to a four-year extension worth a reported $38 million
Kirksey led the team and finished third in the NFL with 148 tackles last season
The Cleveland Browns' offseason spending spree continued this week, as they lavished another one of their own with a long-term contract extension.
The Browns announced via their official Twitter account that they agreed to a four-year contract extension with linebacker Christian Kirksey.

The Browns did not announce a dollar figure for the extension, but NFL.com reported that Kirksey will make $38 million over the life of the additional four years, $20 million of which is guaranteed.

The Browns were approximately $41 million under the cap prior to Kirksey's extension, per Spotrac, so they had plenty of room to fit his new deal on their books. They had all that room even after taking on the contract of Brock Osweiler, signing Jamie Collins and Joel Bitonio to lavish new deals, signing high-priced free agents like Kenny Britt, Kevin Zeitler, and JC Tretter, and making three first-round picks in this year's draft.
Cleveland obviously considers Kirksey, who finished third the NFL with 148 tackles last season, an integral part of the team's defense moving forward.
"Christian Kirksey brings a lot to this football team," lead front office decision-maker Sashi Brown said, per the team's website. "He's another example of a young talented football player that we want to be part of our organization for the long-term. Chris reflects the hard work and commitment we want in our locker room. He has done everything asked of him since he was drafted and has developed into an impact starter. We are very pleased to get a new deal with him in place. We look forward to watching him continue to emerge as a leader of our team and establish a culture of winning here in Cleveland."
