Bruce Irvin suspended four games for PED violation
Seahawks defensive end Bruce Irvin has been suspended four games for violating the league's policy on performance-enhancing substances.
It's a good thing the Seattle Seahawks loaded up on pass rushers this offseason because they'll be missing second-year speedster Bruce Irvin for the first four games. The NFL suspended the defensive end for violating the league's policy on performance-enhancing substances. He's either exhausted his appeal options or decided not to appeal, and he has apologized for his mistake in a statement released by the Seahawks.
"I want to apologize to my teammates, coaches and Seahawks fans for making a mistake when I took a substance that is prohibited in the NFL without a medical exemption," Irvin said in a statement released by the team. "I am extremely disappointed in the poor judgment I showed and take full responsibility for my actions. I will not appeal the discipline and instead will focus my energy on preparing for the season so I can begin earning your trust and respect again. I look forward to contributing to the team the moment I return."
Those signings, which came at a cheap cost, need to turn out to be big-time bargains early in the year, at least until Irvin can return and boost the team's pass rush.
Irvin will miss four pretty important games. The Seahawks open against the Panthers, have a critical division game against their arch-rivals the 49ers in Week 2, play the Jaguars in Week 3 and face an AFC playoff team in the Texans in Week 4.
The defensive end is eligible to participate in all offseason and preseason activities, practices and games and will be eligible to return from his suspension on September 30.
