Calvin Johnson on Matt Elam: I don't see him unless I run past him

Expect Calvin Johnson to be a handful for the Ravens' secondary on Monday night. (USATSI)
Calvin Johnson isn't known for his trash talk. When you have 75 receptions for 1,351 yards (18.0 YPC) and 12 touchdowns there really isn't much you can say other than "watch this." That said, Johnson, who is appropriately nicknamed Megatron, isn't just going to stand idly by while opponents take shots at him.

So a day after Ravens rookie safety Matt Elam said Johnson is "pretty old, so I don't know how physical he'll be," Johnson shared his thoughts on the matter.

"He can talk all he wants" Megatron said, via the Baltimore Sun's Jeff Zrebiec. "He plays (defensive) back. I don’t see him every play unless I run past him. ...

“I don’t need motivation but anything positive, anything negative that comes at me throughout the week, you just take it, put it in that box over there for motivation and use it on [game day].”

So, yeah, way to go, Matt.

When asked what he thought of the Ravens safeties in general, Johnson said, “I think that [if quarterback Matthew Stafford] does a good job with his eyes, he could get those guys out of position where we could make some plays. Just safeties -- nothing extraordinary. Those are definitely guys we can make plays on.”

Meanwhile, Zrebiec makes a good point.

And Ravens quarterback Joe Flacco has one question for Elam:

“It’s all good,” Johnson said. “I’ll show [Elam] what that old-man strength is all about, though.”
