Cardinals add DE John Abraham
After another solid season in Atlanta, defensive end John Abraham reportedly has signed a two-year deal with the Cardinals.
With the Seahawks and 49ers taking up so much of the oxygen when it comes to loading up for what should be a solid 2013 showdown in the NFC West, we haven’t been paying as much attention to the Cardinals.
But already, they’ve acquired quarterback Carson Palmer and running back Rashard Mendenhall in the offseason, and now, after signing free agent tackle Eric Winston earlier in the day Thursday, they’re looking to improve their defense by giving defensive end John Abraham another chance in the league, CBSSports.com's Jason La Canfora confirmed.
La Canfora reports the deal is worth roughly about $6 million for two years.
The move, first reported by ESPN, isn’t a big surprise since Abraham made a visit to Arizona on Wednesday. With Abraham off the board, the most solid free agent defensive lineman to remain on the free agent market is likely Richard Seymour.
After leaving the Falcons following his 10-sack season from last year (in which he also forced seven fumbles and defended six passes), it’s interesting that Abraham didn’t make more of an impact in the free agent market.
True, he is 35 years old, but he’s played at least 15 games in each of the past six seasons, and in every one of those years but one, he’s recorded at least 9.5 sacks.
During the offseason, Abraham reportedly met with the Dolphins, Titans, Falcons, and Patriots before receiving his offer from Arizona.
