Chargers sign first-round pick CB Jason Verrett
The Chargers have all six of their 2014 draft picks under contract after signing Jason Verrett on Thursday.
The San Diego Chargers 2014 draft class is officially under contract. First-round pick Jason Verrett signed his deal on Thursday, becoming the final member of the Chargers six-player draft class to sign his contract.
The 25th overall pick signed a four-year deal with a team-option for a fifth year. Exact terms of the deal haven't been disclosed, but under the rookie slotting system, Verrett's fully-guaranteed contract should be worth about $7.89 million, which would include a $4.06 million signing bonus.
Verrett should be able to contribute right away for a Chargers pass defense that ranked 28th overall in the NFL last season. The former Texas Christian defensive back was a second-team All-American in 2013 and named the Big 12 co-Defensive Player of the Year.
Due to the holes in the Chargers secondary, CBSSports.com senior writer Pete Prisco gave the Verrett pick a B+, saying Verrett will 'fill a big need' for the team.
