Chiefs RB Jamaal Charles scores autograph from Broncos' Peyton Manning

After the Chiefs narrowly lost to the Broncos on Sunday, Kansas City running back Jamaal Charles was spotted in the parking lot asking Peyton Manning for an autograph. Manning happily obliged.

Some in the Kansas City area apparently weren’t happy that Charles had made the request -- you can see the episode in this KCTV 5 video. And when a reporter asked him how many players autographs he normally gets, Charles sheepishly laughed and said it was for his mother.

Meanwhile, Chiefs receiver Dwayne Bowe asked Manning to pose for a picture.

“He’s a legend,” Bowe said afterward. “It’s Peyton Manning. Who wouldn’t want a picture of him?”

Charles has received some pushback for his autograph attempt, including former analyst Rich Baldinger, a former Chiefs player, at the end of the clip linked above. Baldinger says the team must not care about winning if they’re trying to score Manning’s signature after the game.

That, of course, is ridiculous. Just because you can crack a smile after a loss doesn’t mean you’re flippant about trying to be good at your job. It just means that you have perspective and you realize losing a game doesn’t mean you should spend the next week inside your basement crying tears of sorrow.
