Chip Kelly doesn't think Michael Vick will be ready to go vs. Raiders
On Monday, a day after Michael Vick had to leave the Giants game with a hamstring injury, coach Chip Kelly conceded that Vick probably wouldn't be available for this week's game.
We're at the halfway point of the 2013 season and the promise of Chip Kelly's high-flying offense saving the Eagles has yet to play out. That doesn't appear to be changing anytime soon, and this assumes you think Michael Vick is a capable quarterback.
On Monday, a day after Vick had to leave the Giants game with a(nother) hamstring injury, Kelly conceded that Vick probably wouldn't be available for this week's matchup against the Raiders. Which means that if second-year QB Nick Foles still hasn't recovered from the concussion he suffered in Week 7, rookie Matt Barkley could make his first NFL start.
"Matt is healthy, so that's a positive," Kelly said, via Philly.com. "I would think Mike would not be ready to go, and it depends on where Nick [Foles] is. So we'll know early in the week which two guys we got to prepare for, one and two. Our first day of practice is [Tuesday]. We'll have a good understanding today. I know Nick will come in today and meet with [trainer] Chris Peduzzi and our doctors, and we'll have a good understanding of where Nick is this week and what's his availability."
If there's a silver lining, it's this: Despite their 3-5 record, the Eagles are only one game behind the Cowboys in the NFC East. Whether they can do anything with their good fortune is another matter, but two months into the season this much is certain: All those points the Philly offense was supposed to score haven't materialized. And, really, that will be the only way for this team to overcome one of the league's worst defenses.
