Chuck Pagano on Trent Richardson: 'He'll be ready to roll' Sunday
A day after trading for RB Trent Richardson, Colts coach Chuck Pagano made it clear that the team didn't acquire him to sit on the bench. He's expected to play this weekend.
The Browns traded Trent Richardson, the No. 3 overall pick in the 2012 NFL Draft, to the Colts on Wednesday afternoon. On Thursday, Colts coach Chuck Pagano made it clear that the team didn't acquire Richardson to sit on the bench. Even if by Sunday's kickoff in San Francisco, he will have been on the roster for less than 100 hours.
“We did not bring him in here to be the water boy on Sunday,” he said, via PFT. “He’ll be ready to roll.”
Though, to be fair, Bobby Boucher would have really upgraded the Colts' running game and he wouldn't have cost the team a first-round pick.
Back on earth, Pagano admits that he couldn't believe the Colts had a chance to get Richardson.
“Are you being serious?" he asked general manager Ryan Grigson upon learning the news. "Are you messing with me?”
No joke, Chuck. The Colts now have a legit running back, one who will hopefully open up the offense for the team's other young star: Quarterback Andrew Luck.
The rest of the AFC North could appreciate that.

“We know what [Richardson] brings to the table as a runner, as a pass catcher as a protector so we feel, obviously, very excited,” Pagano said.
And Richardson, who thanked Browns fans for their support on his way out of town, sounds like he's ready to get to work in Indy.
"I want to be that guy that puts the team on his shoulders," he said, according to the team's Twitter feed. "[Luck and I] are going to be here for a while," he continued. "We are not planning on going nowhere. We are planning to win a lot of games."
