Dallas Cowboys offensive lineman Nate Livings is scheduled to undergo surgery on his right knee and could miss the team's regular season opener, according to the team's website. The surgery would be Livings' second surgery on the knee in six months.
The 31-year-old left guard will have his knee scoped, which could keep Livings sidelined for up to four weeks. The Cowboys Sept. 8 regular season opener against the Giants is just over five weeks away.
Livings originally underwent surgery on the knee in February, according to ESPN.com. The surgery went well enough for Livings to participate in organized team activities in May, however, during OTA's, Livings aggravated the injury. The Cowboys were hoping that rest would be enough to heal the injury, but that didn't happen.
The injury is potentially bad news for the Cowboys, who are already depleted at guard.
Last year's starting right guard, Mackenzy Bernadeau, strained his hamstring during the Cowboys conditioning test to open training camp and has yet to practice with the team. Bernadeau and Livings both started in all 16 games last year for Dallas.
Livings is in the second year of a five-year, $18.7 million deal he signed with the Cowboys before the 2012 season. Livings came to Dallas from Cincinnati where he spent the first four seasons of his career.
