Earlier on Friday, we brought you a story about Redskins general manager Scot McCloughan and his banged up hand, which he injured by punching a wall after learning about an offseason injury to his first-round pick. It turns out that wasn't the strangest injury story to emerge on Friday.
That honor belongs to the Cowboys. On Friday, owner Jerry Jones revealed that linebacker Damien Wilson will be out for a brief period due to an eye injury. The cause of that injury: playing paintball, according to ESPN.
"That's real hard to grasp and figure those issues," Jones said. "I'm being trite when I say it because it's a serious enough issue to keep him off the field for a couple of weeks."
Last season, Wilson appeared in all 16 games, per Pro Football Reference. He did not, however, start any of those games.
At this point, the Cowboys might struggle to trot out 11 defenders on the field. A list of their woes:
- Wilson is out for 10 days, according to Stephen Jones.
- Pass rusher Randy Gregory reportedly checked himself into rehab, is already facing a four-game suspension, and reportedly violated the league's substance-abuse policy, which means he might be dealt a lengthier suspension.
- Pass rusher DeMarcus Lawrence is suspended four games.
- Linebacker Rolando McClain is out with a 10-game suspension and didn't show up to training camp.
Did I miss any? Seriously, I'm asking.
Reminder: This is the same team that lost running back Darren McFadden to a broken elbow, which was caused by slipping on wet cement near a swimming pool.
