Darrelle Revis told Bucs he's 'all in,' they expect him on field in Week 1
Darrelle Revis told the Bucs he's 'all in' and they expect him on the field Week 1 against his old team.
National Darrelle Revis Trade Day went pretty well; Sunday featured all things Revis all day. (You're welcome NBA playoffs.) That's what happens when the best cornerback in the NFL is dealt for a first-round pick and given a monster six-year contract by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
So how did Revis manage to sell the Bucs on the deal? Well, per Peter King of Sports Illustrated, by telling him that he's "all in."
"I'm all in," Revis told them. "I'm a Buccaneer."
It also didn't hurt that the Bucs doctors cleared Revis, although not to the point that it was 100 percent locked he would go back to being the Revis who was the most dominant cornerback in the NFL before his injury.
In fact, general manager Mark Dominik said that the decision ultimately "came down to" he and coach Greg Schiano and that they were "comfortable with the risk."
"We decided there was not enough risk to not do it," Dominik told King. "At the end of the day, you trust your doctors to tell you as much as they can, but it's a decision really that came down to me and Greg. We had to be comfortable with the risk, and I can tell you we are.''
Additionally, the Bucs expect to have Revis ready to go for the full season. Dominik said he expects Revis to be "on the field" when the team opens training camp and to play opening day against his old team, when the Buccaneers kick off the season against the Jets in New York.
"Where Darrelle will be on the day we open camp is on the field,'' Dominik said. "And where he'll be opening day is playing against the Jets. That's what I believe."
