DeMarcus Ware: Dez Bryant rant at wrong 'time and place'
DeMarcus Ware says that there's always a 'time and place' for an emotional sideline rant and Dez Bryant's came at the wrong one.
Dez Bryant's sideline antics -- which now appear more enthusiastic than they do angry -- are still drawing plenty of attention around the NFL. What's really attracting attention is the second Bryant rant, where he's being restrained by Cowboys veterans Jason Witten and DeMarcus Ware late in the game.
"There’s always a time and place -- 12 seconds left in the game, knowing how important you are in the game; that’s not the place," Ware said. “There’s always a time to approach the situation and approach it the right way.
This is probably the most rational take we've heard come out of the whole Bryant fiasco. In a tight game, Bryant was freaking out emotionally and it didn't sit well with the veterans. Ware wisely worked on calming him down and is providing a solid lesson to the younger Bryant about how to handle himself in such a situation.
“The thing is, you’ve got to carry things a certain way, do things a certain way,” Ware said. “Twelve seconds left in the game, you got an opportunity to win. You go at it as such."
But don't take any of this as Ware talking down to Bryant. He noted that they're "really close" and that because they're both "competitors" these sorts of emotional reactions can happen on the sideline.
"To get respect, you’ve got to give respect to others," Ware said. “Me and Dez, we’re really close to each other, and he’s a great dude, a great player. Sometimes things get heated on the sideline because we’re competitors. He’s a great competitor. There’s a time and place for everything.
"Everything is behind us now, and it’s on to the Vikings."
