Extra points: Chip Kelly's offense outshines RG3 in Eagles 33-27 win
Chip Kelly's offense produced 263 rushing yards for the Eagles. Before Monday, Philadelphia had not produced 263 or more rushing yards since 2002.
Chip Kelly might just might work out as an NFL head coach after all.
In his NFL debut, Kelly's lightning fast offense set FedEx Field on fire in the first half on Monday with 26 points and over 300 total yards. The first half production was enough to carry the visiting Eagles to a 33-27 win over Washington.
The Eagles new offense seemed to be a good fit for running back LeSean McCoy. McCoy ran for 184 yards and a touchdown against the Redskins, a total that included a nifty 34-yard touchdown run in the third quarter that gave Philadelphia a 33-7 lead.
McCoy's total was the second-highest of his career, trailing only a 185-yard game he had against Dallas in 2011.
Kelly's debut wasn't the only reason people were watching the game on Monday though, it's probably safe to say a few people tuned in to check out Redskins quarterback Robert Griffin III. In his first game since undergoing ACL surgery in January, RG3 looked tentative in the first half, which caused the Washington offense to sputter.
Griffin only threw for 53 yards in the first two quarters before rebounding with a 276-yard, two touchdown performance in the second half. Griffin finished 30 of 49 for 329 yards and two touchdowns.
Eagles quarterback Michael Vick outdueled RG3, throwing for 203 yards and two touchdowns. Vick also tacked on 54 yards and a rushing touchdown on the ground. DeSean Jackson was Vick's favorite target, catching seven passes for 104 yards and a touchdown.
Here's a by the numbers look at how successful Kelly's offense was:
263: The 263 rushing yards Philadelphia had against the Redskins was the most the Eagles have totaled on the ground since Oct. 28, 2002, when the team had 293 rushing yards in a 17-3 win over the Giants.
53: How fast was the Philly offense moving in the first half? The Eagles ran 53 plays, which is the most any team has run in a first half since 1998 and the second most since 1991. The 53 plays were also three more than the 50 offensive plays Carolina ran in its entire game on Sunday.
33: The 33 points the Eagles scored against Washington ties the most that the team scored during the entire 2012 season. Philadelphia hasn't topped the 33-point mark since scoring 34 in the final game of the 2011 regular season.
3: LeSean McCoy was one of only three NFL players to go over the 100-yard rushing mark. McCoy's 184-rushing yards against Washington makes him the NFL's rushing leader. Raiders quarterback Terrelle Pryor (112) and Patriots running back Shane Vereen (101) were the other players to cross the 100-yard mark.
1: With the win over the Redskins, the Eagles have now equaled their division win total from 2012. Philadelphia went 1-5 in NFC East games last season.
