Falcons RB Antone Smith: Jadeveon Clowney is 'just a guy'
Antone Smith thinks Jadeveon Clowney is 'just a guy.'
You might've seen this quotable nugget in this week's "Sorting the Sunday Pile" but in case you missed it: Texans defensive end Jadeveon Clowney blew someone up in the backfield again. That someone was Antone Smith, a running back for the Falcons. It looked something like BAM:
Smith, as you might guess, wasn't thrilled about the whole "being embarrassed on a national stage" thing. So he did what anyone backed into a corner with questions about getting tattooed and watching it over and over would do: he called Clowney "just a guy."
“Just a guy,” Smith said on Houston's Sports Radio 610. "I don’t see anything special. He’s just a guy. He’s a guy who plays defensive end. He plays pretty good. Made a good play."
In fairness to Smith, this wasn't his fault at all. He just took a handoff and got trucked. There's nothing he could've done about Clowney storming in the backfield.
The problem was with the Falcons offensive line. They tried to pull a guard on the play, leaving a big wall of nothing in between Clowney -- who has one of the fastest first steps in football -- and the backfield.
At least Smith was willing to admit he got walloped though.
“I didn’t see anything,” Smith said. “The only thing I seen was me hitting the ground.”
At least he'll get roughly 10 billion chances to relive the moment.
