Fans fly banner calling for Dolphins owner to fire Jeff Ireland
Dolphins fans have had enough. On Sunday, there's a banner flying over Sun Life Stadium calling for the owner to fire GM Jeff Ireland.
Dolphins fans and general manager Jeff Ireland have long had a tenuous relationship. Two years ago, several disgruntled supporters took up a collection to fly a banner of Sun Life Stadium that read, "Mr. Ross, save our Dolphins. Fire Jeff Ireland."
That would be team owner Stephen Ross.
Now, in light of the Richie Incognito bullying scandal and last week's loss to the 0-8 Buccaneers, Dolphins fans have again mobilized. First, they flooded Ireland's voice mail with their non-football-related thoughts, and Sunday there's a another banner flying over the stadium.
"Mr. Ross, we told you 2 years ago #Fireland" pretty much says it all.
And Ireland's critics might finally get their wish. Last weekend, there was a report that neither Ireland nor coach Joe Philbin would survive the Incognito-Martin situation. And even though owner Stephen Ross publicly supported Philbin in a news conference several days later, Ireland's name was conspicuously absent.
