Former Bills WR David Nelson agrees to terms with Browns
Former Buffalo Bills wide receiver David Nelson has agreed to terms on a one-year deal with the Cleveland Browns.
Former Buffalo Bills wide receiver David Nelson has agreed to terms on a one-year deal with the Cleveland Browns, the team announced Monday. Nelson missed all but one game last season with a knee injury.
Buffalo had high hopes for Nelson going into 2012, but the 26-year-old receiver tore his ACL in the Bills' regular season opener, an injury that forced him to miss the rest of the year. Nelson was coming off of a productive 2011 season where he caught 61 passes for 658 yards and five touchdowns. Both the catch and yardage totals were second on the team to only Stevie Johnson.
"David possesses very good size and hands and has a good feel for the game," Browns coach Rob Chudzinski said. "He showed promised with Buffalo two years ago before missing most of last season with an injury and we feel as though he will be a good addition to our group of wide receivers."
Nelson originally signed with Buffalo in 2010 as an udrafted free agent out of Florida. As a rookie, he contributed to the Bills offense almost immediately, catching 31 passes for 353 yards and three touchdowns in his first year with the team.
The addition of Nelson will beef up a Browns receiving corps that currently includes Josh Gordon, Greg Little and Jordan Norwood. With Brandon Weeden under center last season, both Gordon and Little each managed to catch over 50 passes.
