Former Bucs player says Schiano tried to kick him out of practice

By just about any measure, Buccaneers coach Greg Schiano is going through a rough patch. Following Sunday's loss to the Falcons, the team fell to 0-6 this season, and that's on top of a 1-5 finish to 2012. Some of it is self-induced; Schiano bumbled his way through the Josh Freemansaga, and the NFLPA is convinced that the second-year coach was responsible for leaking confidential information about Freeman.

But it's not just current players who have issues with Schiano. Former Bucs safety and Super Bowl MVP Dexter Jackson has stories, too. Dexter last played in the NFL in 2008, but has remained close to the Bucs organization. And sometimes that includes attending team practices. He says that ended once Schiano came into power.

“Schiano sent his guy over to run me out of practice one day,” Jackson told 98.7 The Fan Sunday morning. “This guy said, ‘Who are you? What are you doing here? You can’t be here.’ I said, ‘go get the Glazers if you want me to leave.’ [Schiano] tried to run me out.”

Jackson says he was also told to quit bringing kids from the Tampa area to practice.

“I usually bring kids to One Buc Place -- 4th and 5th graders in Hillsborough County and Pinellas County doing my case management work with a lot of youth in this area,” he said. “They told me to stop bringing kids on Friday because I’m distracting professional players.

“I’m distracting professional players by bringing kids who have succeeded in school, did well, stayed out of trouble, and they’re a distraction? If they’re a distraction, I’m worried about fans during away games. How can that be a distraction?”

Nothing to see here. Schiano has proclaimed that the Bucs are "going to be good," though he didn't offer a timeframe on the turnaround.
