Former Giants LB Lawrence Taylor once golfed in leather pants
Lawrence Taylor has done some odd things in his life and now you can add 'golfing in leather pants' to the list.
Never loan your golf clubs to a guy wearing leather pants. That's the moral of our latest installment of "LT: The Life and Times" webisode series -- the full documentary airs on Showtime Friday, September 20 at 8 p.m. ET.
Phil Simms learned that lesson the hard way with former Giants teammate Lawrence Taylor. Besides crushing quarterbacks on the football field, one of LT's favorite things was crushing golf balls.
LT loves golf so much, he once called Simms at 5:15 a.m. asking Simms to get him a tee time at any nearby golf course. Simms seemed a little surprised at getting such an early call, but LT was equally surprised that Simms wasn't already awake. At 5:15 in the morning.
"Man, what is it with you white people, you're always sleeping," LT said to Simms on the phone.
"So I get up and start making calls at 5:30 in the morning," Simms said of trying to find LT a golf course. "He pulls into my house. It's about seven o'clock now and my wife starts making him breakfast. He's got black leather pants on and he goes, 'Do you have a golf shirt that goes with these?'"
Simms ended up loaning LT some golf clubs, a golf shirt and some golf shoes. And to this day, Simms still wonders what happened to those possessions.
"Where are my shoes and golf clubs, I never saw them after that day?" Simms asked Taylor.
"They're with my leather pants." LT replied.
And who knows where those leather pants are now.
