After undergoing back surgery in June, Giants defensive end Jason Pierre-Paul has been on the Physically Unable to Perform list as he recovers.

Good news for him Monday, though.

Obviously, this is big news for the Giants (hence the exclamation point in the above tweet), since Pierre-Paul has combined for 23 total sacks in the past two years. Yes, he wasn’t as good in 2012 as he was in 2011 -- that might have had something to do with his constant back pain --but Pierre-Paul still has the potential to be a top-five defensive end in this league.

As the Star Ledger notes, Pierre-Paul has made strides in the past week, with “football-related quick-burst movements and sprinting.” The team continues to hope Pierre-Paul will be ready to play by Week 1.

Pierre-Paul said, via the NY Daily News, that he’s not feeling any pain, but "I'm not going to rush it. A back injury is a serious thing." He also said he doesn’t know if he’ll be ready to play by the season opener.
