Giants DE Jason Pierre-Paul off PUP, cleared to practice
Jason Pierre-Paul doesn't know if he'll be ready by Week 1, but he got good news Monday when he was cleared to practice.
Good news for him Monday, though.
Jason Pierre-Paul has been activated off of PUP and has been cleared to practice! More on http://t.co/PxnieK9dtd— New York Giants (@Giants) August 26, 2013
Obviously, this is big news for the Giants (hence the exclamation point in the above tweet), since Pierre-Paul has combined for 23 total sacks in the past two years. Yes, he wasn’t as good in 2012 as he was in 2011 -- that might have had something to do with his constant back pain --but Pierre-Paul still has the potential to be a top-five defensive end in this league.
As the Star Ledger notes, Pierre-Paul has made strides in the past week, with “football-related quick-burst movements and sprinting.” The team continues to hope Pierre-Paul will be ready to play by Week 1.
Pierre-Paul said, via the NY Daily News, that he’s not feeling any pain, but "I'm not going to rush it. A back injury is a serious thing." He also said he doesn’t know if he’ll be ready to play by the season opener.
