If the Broncos win the Super Bowl, safety Mike Adams is walking home
Some people would want to bask in the spotlight after winning the Super Bowl. If the Broncos win, Mike Adams just wants to return to his roots.
If the Broncos win the Super Bowl, safety Mike Adams plans to celebrate in a unique, cathartic fashion.
See Adams is from Paterson, N.J., just 12 miles from MetLife Stadium. The veteran safety plans on walking home, back to a place numerous people told him he’d never escape from. He heard those same naysayers as an undrafted free agent out of Delaware and is now in his 10th year in the league.
Of Paterson, Adams describes his hometown as a disease.
“It can be almost like cancer, and I say that because the negativity in that place can be like a snowball rolling down hill,” he said.
According to Giants receiver Victor Cruz – also a native of Paterson – too many teenagers died from their hometown instead of even graduating from high school. Adams grew up not knowing his father and his mother died of ovarian cancer in 2004. Needless to say, if Adams wins the Super Bowl, he’ll be walking on clouds.
“After I get to the IHOP on Route 3, I’ll start hitchhiking,” Adams joked. “But they’d probably just think I’m some crazy person.”
