It's official: Mike Shanahan says RG3 is his Week 1 starter
Eight months after a devastating knee injury, Robert Griffin III will be ready to take the starting snaps in Week 1.
It’s as officially official as official can be.
This comes after Griffin tweeted last week that he had been cleared to play vs. the Eagles on Monday night and after Dr. James Andrews expressed a few reservations with the idea (even though Andrews later said he had no concerns despite Shanahan saying earlier that Andrews did have reservations).
ANYWAY, Griffin will start. Officially. Unless something bad happens in the next seven days.
“He’s ready to go,” Shanahan told reporters. “Full speed ahead … I feel good with where Robert is at.”
Shanahan also said Griffin can do anything that needs to be done -- whether that’s rolling out, sprinting, making cuts, standing and throwing in the pocket, or running the read option.
"If we didn’t feel like Robert was full-go and able do all the things he can be asked to do, he wouldn’t be in this game,” Shanahan said.
So, there you have it. It’s official. Well, as official as it can be until Griffin actually takes his first snap.
Until then, here’s perspective for how crazy Griffin’s recovery has been.
RG3 will start Wk 1. Knee ligaments used to be a year away. Now w/Griffin & Peterson, only a few months. In 10 yrs it'll be a 2-week injury.— Kent Babb (@kentbabb) September 2, 2013
