Jaguars wide receiver Justin Blackmon was in a single-car accident early Saturday morning but law enforcement officials said he avoided injury and that neither alcohol nor drugs were involved.
Investigators for the Florida Highway Patrol told News4Jax.com that Blackmon's 2009 GMC Denali suffered a blown tire around 3:30 a.m. and his SUV hit a guardrail before coming to rest in a ditch.
"Our officers are trained to look for specific indicators -- for example, slurred speech, bloodshot or watery eyes, the inability to follow instructions," Florida Highway Patrol spokesman Sgt. Dylan Bryan told ESPN. "If they notice indicators like that, they can progress into a separate investigation into DUI.
"He was very cooperative with investigators."
Blackmon, the Jaguars' 2012 first-round pick, was suspended for the 2013 season last November after violating the league's substance abuse policy.
That violation was Blackmon's second in just over six months. He missed the first four games of the 2013 season after a substance-abuse violation last April. The former Oklahoma State star is eligible for reinstatement before the 2014 season.
