If you’re going to call Bears quarterback Jay Cutler anything, you have to call him a romantic at heart. Need proof? Here’s how Cutler proposed to now-fiancee Kristin Cavallari.
"It was so silly," Cavallari told the E! network. "I was in the airport, leaving Chicago. We had just spent however many days together and we were texting and somehow it came up, like, 'Oh, shall we get married?' We're like, 'Yeah, OK.' And then he sent my ring in the mail. So I actually had my ring sitting at home for a couple of weeks before I put it on."
Niiiice, right?
Now, to be fair, this is actually the second time the couple has been engaged (the first was called off before the two reconciled), so Cutler probably figured the second time you ask your partner for her hand in matrimony, it doesn’t need to be quite as formal. If you’ve got to do it through the mail, that’s the way it goes (as long as it’s not on a Saturday, am I right?).
And I’ll admit that I once asked a girl to go steady with me in a written, snail-mailed letter. Of course, I have a pretty good excuse: I was in eighth grade, and the girl had been grounded from the phone by her dad.
Here’s hoping Cutler’s result is better than mine. After three weeks together (mostly over Christmas break where we didn’t see each other at all), my girlfriend dumped me. Since then, I've never used the postal service for my romantic queries.
