Jerry Jones thinks the kneel-down is a 'wasted play,' would be OK banning it
Jerry Jones said on his radio show this week that the kneel-down is a 'wasted play' and hinted that he'd be OK if the NFL decided to ban it.
The kneel-down has been a hot topic of discussion this week, in the wake of incident at the end of the Giants-Buccaneers game and the heated discussion between Tom Coughlin and Greg Schiano that ensued.
We've currently got a Facebook poll going on the topic, and would love your vote. But maybe we should have added a third option, courtesy of Jerry Jones: the elimination of the kneel-down. Jones, appearing on 105.3 the Fan in Dallas, called the kneel-down a "wasted play."
"I’ve always thought that’s a wasted play for our fans, the kneel-down," Jones said on Tuesday. "I don’t like it."

Jones also hinted that he'd be fine with the NFL banning the kneel-down in favor of teams being forced to advance the football and mentioned the fact that former Chiefs owner Lamar Hunt once tried to get a rule voted on that would outlaw the kneel-down during games.
"Lamar Hunt tried several times to introduce a rule -- to have it voted on -- that you couldn’t kneel down,” said Jones. "You had to run a play. Unless you were trying to advance the ball, then you got a penalty and time didn’t run off the clock.
"It’s not a good play."
It's definitely a boring play, with the rare exception of when an incident like the one on Sunday occurs. That being said, if we don't have a kneel-down, what are we going to get? Maybe a running back taking a handoff and "falling down"? Or perhaps a read-option run where the quarterback "slips"?
It's crazy to think that you'd have to run a play and potentially injure someone if the other team has no timeouts and you're winning. That's the definition of victory, even if Jones and Schiano might not agree.
