Jim Irsay jokes about signing Ed Reed as a wide receiver

Ed Reed as a wide receiver/backup safety? Ouch, Jim Irsay. (USATSI)

Breaking news: mixing Jim Irsay with Twitter equals insanity. The Mad Tweeter's latest venture into the digital realm at least raises the possibility of an NFL rumor though.

Irsay, hopping online to tweet about a contest involving limos" and "beer, wings, cavier" and "Champaign," made a funny about signing current free agent Ed Reed -- recently cut by Houston -- as a wide receiver, back-up safety and special teams fella.

Something tells me Reed has zero interest in this. Reed signed with the Texans this offseason to get playing time, improve a young secondary and provide the leadership in the locker room necessary to push the Texans over the top.

Houston struggled mightily and let him go, but he's coming off a 2012 where he won a Super Bowl. It's not like he's ring-chasing at this point.

Although anything that gets the football in Ed Reed's hands with the potential for laterals is fine by me.
