Indianapolis Colts owner Jim Irsay gave a vote of confidence to general manager Ryan Grigson and head coach Chuck Pagano on Tuesday amid mounting criticism over the team's 2-4 start.
Grigson and Pagano have been the subject of much of the blame from fans over the start, but Irsay, who gave both Grigson and Pagano contract extensions after the 2015 8-8 season, says he is standing behind his coach and general manager.
“Of course, we are disappointed,’’ Irsay said during owners meetings in Houston on Monday, per WTTV 4 Indianapolis. “That being said, I feel confident that we have the right group of leaders, of guys – the quarterback, head coach, general manager. I feel confident we have those pillars in place and through time, it will show.’’
Irsay added that he intends on Grigson and Pagano to remain in their positions for the long term.
“I have patience and nothing has changed,’’ Irsay said. “When I made the decision in January, it was a decision that was well thought out and a long-term decision. “Both of the guys have accomplished a lot in their careers. We could be 6-0 if the ball bounces a little differently.’’
Grigson and Pagano are under contract through 2019 after signing extensions in January.
