Joe Flacco: Wildcat makes Ravens 'look like a high school offense'
Joe Flacco really, really hates the wildcat. He think it makes the Ravens "look like a high school offense" and he's done participating in it.
Out of desperation the Ravens turned to the wildcat on Sunday, throwing Tyrod Taylor under center for a few snaps. It wasn't very effective and it doesn't make much sense, frankly. Joe Flacco, for one, hates it.
The Ravens actual quarterback said he has a disdain for the wildcat because it makes the Ravens "look like a high school offense."
"I don’t like that stuff," Flacco said. "It makes you look like a high school offense. That’s just my opinion."
Flacco said it's not about being a slap in the face to him and he doesn't even care whenever it comes along in the game, he just doesn't like seeing the wildcat used in the Ravens offense.
“I don’t care how we use it in the game – successful, not successful, after a big play, not after a big play – I don’t care where it’s used. I’m just not a huge fan of it,” Flacco said. “I’m the quarterback. I want to be behind the line of scrimmage. I want to be taking the snaps. That’s really the only thing. I don’t necessarily take it personally in terms of our offense trying to get better.
"I just think it makes us look not like an NFL team."
In fact, Flacco hates it so much that he's not even going to participate in the wildcat. His job is to line up at receiver whenever the wildcat comes into play but he says he's "not doing anything" whenever those plays are called.
"I’m not doing a single thing," Flacco said. "I’m not blocking. I’m not doing anything."
It's a pretty brash move for Flacco to rip the offense -- even if it's a gimmick offense -- that way. He's not angling for a pay day anymore so it's not quite as big a deal, obviously, but he's not pulling any punches.
What would make his opinion a lot easier to understand would be if the Ravens were actually producing on the offensive end this year.
