Justin Blackmon set to return after 4-game suspension
After four games away from the his team, Jaguars receiver Justin Blackmon should help his team's offense.
After violating the league’s substance abuse policy, the NFL suspended Jacksonville receiver Justin Blackmon for four games last April.
With a new coaching staff and front office in town , Blackmon, after getting into an verbal altercation with a Dolphins cornerback during a preseason game where he had to be escorted back to the locker room by his teammates, didn’t make such a great first impression with his new bosses.
Now that the suspension is over and Blackmon was added to the active roster by the Jaguars on Saturday, the 2012 first-round draft pick gets the chance to make amends.
“I look forward to putting this behind me and maturing and growing as a person," Blackmon said at the time of his suspension.
We’ll see if he’s matured at all in the past few months when he returns to the field and immediately upgrades a Jaguars receiving corps that has had to count on Cecil Shorts and fourth-round rookie Ace Sanders. He likely will help Blaine Gabbert, particularly if you think about how Blackmon caught 38 passes for 615 yards and four touchdowns in the last seven games of 2012.
“He’s done tremendous these last four weeks,” Bradley said this week, via the Florida Times Union. “His body fat has dropped and his weight has gained. He’s in really, really good shape right now. He’s done everything that we’ve asked of him, he went on the trips with us. I could go with a list on some of the things we asked him to do that he’s done, so he’s a in a great frame of mind right now."
“As we said last week with Shorts, the only downside to his game is Gabbert, but we'll trust him (somewhat) in this matchup with the Rams when it comes to his receivers. St. Louis has allowed six receivers to reach at least eight Fantasy points, and No. 1 receivers have crushed the Rams with Fitzgerald, Julio Jones, Dez Bryant and Anquan Boldinall scoring touchdowns.”
