Lions bring in Richmond QB John Laub, who is Matt Millen's cousin

Each year following the NFL Draft, there's a mad scramble by teams to bring in undrafted players to compete in camp and see what hidden gems that they can uncover. There are literally hundreds of signings. Most of them aren't notable, and something like the Lions bringing in Richmond quarterback John Laub isn't exactly huge news.

Until you find out that Laub is Matt Millen's cousin.

The Spiders (a pretty cool mascot that doesn't get used enough, if you ask me) announced the news on their team website (via, and a quick scan of Laub's bio confirms the worst-laid fears of Lions fans.

"His cousin is former NFL star and former Detroit Lions president and CEO Matt Millen," Laub's bio reads.

Locking down family members from former franchise legends is usually a good thing. But in this case, Laub's family is only legendary for a penchant to pick wide receivers and inspiring fans to wear brown bags on their heads.

"All you can ask for is a three-day rookie minicamp where I can showcase my skill set and try to impress them," Laub told the Lehigh Valley Morning Call. "I got that opportunity, and now I just want to run with it and try to make it happen."

Here's hoping fans take it easy on the kid.
