Manti Te'o working diligently for NFL combine
What has Manti Te'o been up to since he was so publicly humiliated in his infamous fake dead girlfriend hoax? Apparently, working out.
You might have heard recently about some embarrassing news revolving around former Notre Dame linebacker Manti Te’o. Aside from two national interviews -- one off-camera and one on-camera -- Te’o hasn’t been seen much in the public eye, and in order to focus on the upcoming Draft, he’s excommunicated himself from Twitter.
So, what he has been up to since he was so publicly humiliated in his infamous fake, dead girlfriend hoax? Apparently, working out.
"He missed precisely one day," Chris Weinke, the former Panthers quarterback who works at IMG Academy where Te'o has been preparing for the combine, told ESPN.com. "He's gone about his business and been the same guy all along. I really admire that because a lot of guys his age would not be able to handle this as well as he has. I haven't seen any signs of it being a distraction and I expect him to go up to Indianapolis and have a great combine."
While his online girlfriend ended up fake, Te’o probably wasn’t faking his pro football desires. He had an outstanding season and was one of the main leaders on a Fighting Irish defense that was the driving force to the BCS title game appearance. He comes across as a great kid, and though he’s more gullible than we all thought (or maybe, as some people think, more nefarious), it’s hard to imagine his good-guy image was a complete mirage.
Thus, it’s not tough to believe that Te’o has missed only one day of work.
Though Te’o declined to talk to ESPN.com, one of his Notre Dame teammates said Te’o has been acting like normal.
"Manti has been the same Manti I went to college with," said tight end Tyler Eifert. "He left to do the Katie Couric interview for one day, and I think he was back that same night. He's been out on the field working just like he's always worked. I've tried to be there for him, but I don't know that he's needed all that much help because he's such a strong person to begin with."
