Michael Sam currently doesn't have a job, but his impact this season has been felt throughout the NFL. Sam, the first openly gay player drafted, spent time on the practice squads of the Rams and Cowboys this year, but Dallas cut him in October. We haven't heard much from him since.

But in an interview with Oprah which will be shown Saturday night on OWN (H/T to the Washington Post), Sam said he heard from multiple gay NFL players during the season.

“A very few reached out to me and pretty much just told me their gratitude and how thankful they were that I had the courage,” Sam said. “They wished that they had the courage to come out.”

Oprah pressed him repeatedly in the video shown below about how many gay players contacted him, and though Sam declined to give a specific number, he made it known that it was more than one.

"There's a lot of us out there," Sam said. "I'm not the only one. I'm just the only one that's open.
