Mike Shanahan: '98 percent' chance RG3 starts, lists QB as 'probable'
Mike Shanahan says there's a "98 percent" chance that Robert Griffin III starts Sunday, listing the quarterback as "probable."
Kirk Cousins did an admirable job filling in for Robert Griffin III last week in the Redskins' win over the Browns, but even the most casual NFL observer knows Washington wants RG3 back in the saddle Sunday against the Eagles.
So, good news, 'Skins fans: Mike Shanahan said Friday that there's a "very, very good chance" Griffin will play. As in, like "98 percent" good, with Griffin listed as probable for Sunday's game.
"Like I said, probable [means] there is a very, very good chance he is going to play," Shanahan said Friday. "There doesn’t look like there are any setbacks with him. But if something crazy happens, obviously, we will know before the game. But talking to him after practice, he’s fine."
Griffin has been tracking to play all week. Shanahan said on both Wednesday and Thursday that, barring a setback, he expected Griffin to go. And though Shanny professes that he's not exactly a medical professional, he still likes the quarterback's chances.
"[I will] probably find out later on today. But if I put him as probable, it’s 98 percent. So it’s pretty good," Shanahan said. "I know I’m not a doctor, but he took all the reps today."
Philadelphia has largely been a dumpster fire on defense this year, but they've been OK in pass defense the last two games, giving up just 189 yards to Josh Freeman and 127 yards to Andy Dalton. Of course, it was just over a month ago that Griffin threw for 202 passing yards on 14-of-15 passing with four touchdown throws in a 31-6 annihilation of Philly.
Should he suffer some sort of unexpected "setback," it'll be Cousins who gets the nod. But all signs point to Griffin starting, with the Redskins hoping the only reason that Cousins gets under center is a score similar to the last time the two teams met.
