NFL: Cops 'involved' in Matt Schaub incident, police say no 'angry fans'

Late Tuesday night a report started circulating about some angry Houstonians harassing Texans quarterback Matt Schaub outside his house. With Wednesday here, we have some clarity on the situation courtesy of NFL security.

NFL VP of Security Jeff Miller told NFL.com that it's an "unusual" situation and that "an unidentified individual yelled obscenities" at Schaub's house.

"This is a little unusual in that we don't normally have fans acting in this way, going to a players residence that sort of thing," Miller said. "In this case, Monday afternoon, a vehicle pulled into his driveway, an unidentified individual yelled obscenities. The police department is involved. We've been in contact with them as we normally would for anything like this. And because it is a team issue, they have a security director, we work with them.

"In this case, they'll be working closely with the police department. But it's going to be investigated and handled seriously by Houston Police Department."

You'll notice that Miller said "the police department is involved" and then specifically mentioned the "Houston Police Department" right? Well here's where it gets a little tricky. The Houston Police Department said on Twitter -- while the account is unverified, it is linked to from the department's official website -- that there were no "angry fans" at Schaub's house.

These two statements don't necessarily mesh, right? There is some common ground, though. There was an incident at Schaub's house, but it wasn't some angry mob of Houston fans storming down his crib with pitchforks. There was some lone, rogue idiot who thought rolling up onto another man's property and reading him a riot act would be smart.

The NFL wants you to know this issue's being taken care of but the Houston PD doesn't want you to think that Houston ain't safe.

In other words ...
