According to the Lions official website, Fairley, a second-year player, asked the NFL for permission to attend part of the rookie symposium this week. The NFL gave him special permission to attend alongside the AFC rookies, beginning Wednesday. Fairley did not attend the rookie orientation last year (there was no official symposium, but the NLFPA held sessions in Florida).
“Nick knows that his actions will speak louder than his words in accepting responsibility and moving forward,” Lions president Tom Lewand told the website. “Asking to attend this year’s symposium is clearly a positive action and a step in the right direction.”
He’s also probably hoping to get back in the good graces of commissioner Roger Goodell. Already, the league has suspended Lions running back Mikel Leshoure for the first two games of the season and fined an additional two game checks after he was arrested twice this offseason for marijuana possession.
We haven’t heard anything about Fairley yet.
