Osi thinks Rex 'learned his lesson,' 'Bob Griffin' needs to earn RG3 nickname
Osi Umenyiora, Super Bowl champion, has a right to talk some trash. But he might not want to go too far. He did anyway, though, saying that he thinks Rex Ryan has 'learned his lesson' and that Redskins quarterback 'Bob Griffin' needs to earn his nickname.

And if you were sleeping, Osi Umenyiora's comments about Rex Ryan and Robert Griffin III (née Bob) on WFAN Tuesday, via Paul Schwartz of the New York Post, might wake you up. Osi said that Rex Ryan has "learned his lesson" about trash-talk after getting "beat-down."
"I didn’t play that game but I was in the meetings and all that stuff, man, they didn’t like that at all," Umenyiora said Tuesday on WFAN, making the media rounds to promote M&M's new personalized candy. "I just knew the Jets were gonna get a beat-down after all that trash talking they were doing. I think Rex has pretty much learned his lesson about that. I like the way he coaches, I think he’s a wonderful coach but you really don’t want to be poking a bear with a short stick like that."
Ryan has learned his lesson: he said as much this offseason when he stopped making guarantees about what the Jets would do during the upcoming season. It'll be interesting to see whether or not he can hold his tongue after Osi poked his own slimmed-down bear though.
As for Robert Griffin, III, well, Osi believes that hasn't earned the nickname "RG3" and decided to start calling him "Bob Griffin."
"Who is this RG3 guy you guys keep talking about?" Umenyiora said. "You talking about Bob Griffin? You guys are giving him a cool nickname already and everything. When he does anything in the NFL we’re gonna call him RG3. Right now he’s Bob Griffin."
There's one obvious and viable point of contention with Osi's point here: Bob is a nickname. There isn't anyone actually named "Bob" (or at least anyone was named correctly). Trust me, I know. I'm a Robert.
Osi's point is still humorous and surprisingly valid, though: RG3 gets treated like a superstar, without having actually produced in the NFL. That being said, Griffin is plenty talented, and if he happens to carve up the Giants and/or juke Osi out when the teams meet this year, there's a good chance Bob will get his revenge in the media.
The same probably goes for Rex, regardless of the outcome of his season.
