Patriots have $20M option on Darrelle Revis for 2015
The Patriots have a $20 million option for Darrelle Revis in 2015, but don't expect them to use it.
However, it came to light Thursday that, CBS Sports NFL Insider Jason La Canfora notes, that the Patriots also have a second-year option available on Revis.
It's a team option for 2015 that would cost the Pats $20 million to keep Revis.
Which means technically he signed a two-year, $32 million deal, except technically he didn't because there's zero chance the Patriots will use that option.
Reality of the Revis deal is, 1yr, $12M. No one wanted to pay Revis $16M this year; no one is paying him $20M in 2015 for 1 year— Jason La Canfora (@JasonLaCanfora) March 13, 2014
So the Pats either end up working out a new deal with Revis for 2015 and beyond, or we get to revisit this again in, like, 51 weeks— Jason La Canfora (@JasonLaCanfora) March 13, 2014
$20 million is entirely prohibitive, even for Revis.
The Patriots may want to lock up Revis long term, but don't expect them to use that option, even if it's available to them.
