Petition wants Michael Vick banned from Jets training camp in Cortland
A petition on Change.org wants Michael Vick banned from the Jets training camp in Cortland, New York.
Unless some folks who can't let go of a grudge get their way. A group of students (we assume?) started a petition on Change.org (via the New York Daily News) to ban Vick from the Jets training camp in Cortland. Their anger at Vick stems from federal dogfighting conspiracy charges against him in 2007.
"If we welcome Vick onto our campus, we are complicit in his crimes," the petition says. "We are sending the message that, for money and publicity, we will turn a blind eye to the horrors of dogfighting."
The petition is addressed to Erik Bitterbaum, SUNY president and -- seriously, a word of warning -- contains a graphic image of a pit bull.
It also already has 2,500 signatures. While not quite enough to get it in front of the White House, that's a pretty substantial number for such a localized item.
On the other hand, Vick did already serve 19 months in prison.
I love dogs. I'm not alone. Many people love dogs. But the guy spent his time locked away from society and lost what most people would consider a fortune in the process.
He did some horrible things, but he also paid the price for doing those things.
Some people clearly disagree.
