Jeff Daniels, star of HBO's The Newsroom, took in Lions practice on Tuesday and got to hang with the likes of Calvin Johnson and Tigers pitcher Max Scherzer.
Far from the snarky anchor he plays on HBO’s The Newsroom, Jeff Daniels, a native of Michigan, is actually a huge Detroit sports fan.
That much was evident as the first-time Emmy nominee actor showed up at Lions camp to talk shop with various players as well as Team President Tom Lewand.
As if picking the brains of Megatron wasn’t enough for the avid sports fan, it just so happened that Tigers pitcher Max Scherzer (18-1, 2.82 ERA) took in practice as well.
“I know he’s a huge Detroit fan, follows all the sports teams,” Scherzer said to WXYZ in Detroit. “It’s pretty cool to share that with him,” Scherzer said, also adding that Daniels questioned the Tigers’ Cy Young frontrunner about various pitching sequences.
All in all, pretty solid day for Will McAvoy, otherwise known as Harry Dunne.
In more pressing news for Lions fans and fantasy owners alike, Johnson, who has missed a few practices with a bruised knee, said he's feeling better and plans to play Thursday against the Patriots.
