QB Colin Kaepernick, WR Anquan Boldin go off in 49ers 34-28 win
In his first game with the 49ers, wide receiver Anquan Boldin went off for 208 yards and a touchdown as San Francisco topped Green Bay 34-28. Colin Kaepernick threw for 412 yards in the win.
San Francisco sent a sixth-round pick to Baltimore in March in exchange for Boldin and the trade paid off in a big way on Sunday in the 49ers 34-28 win over Green Bay at Candlestick Park.
The Packers had no answer for Boldin, who caught 13 passes for 208 yards and a touchdown. It was the second biggest game of Boldin's career, trailing only a 217-yard performance he had in his rookie year of 2003. Coincidentally, Boldin's 217-yard game also came on the NFL's opening weekend.
The 49ers were probably happy to see Boldin gash a team that wasn't them. The 32-year-old receiver went off for 104 yards and a touchdown against San Francisco in Baltimore's Super Bowl XLVIII win.
Baltimore could have used Boldin in its opener against Denver. Against the Broncos, the entire Raven receiving corps only combined for 15 catches for 215 yards and a touchdown -- or two catches and seven more yards than Boldin had by himself.
The man throwing the ball to Boldin didn't have a bad game either. San Francisco quarterback Colin Kaepernick finished 27 of 39 for a career-high 412 yards. Before Sunday, Kaepernick had never even hit the 300-yard mark in the regular season, his previous career-high was a 276-yard game against Arizona in December of 2012.
With his performance, Kaepernick became just the fifth quarterback ever to throw for at least 400 yards with at least three touchdowns and no interceptions in an opener. Kaepernick joins Peyton Manning -- who threw for 462 yards and seven touchdowns in Denver's opener on Thursday -- on the list.
