Ravens reinstate LB Rolando McClain from reserve/retired list
Rolando McClain, who struggled during a workout for the Ravens on Tuesday, was activated from the reserve/retired list on Thursday.
It looks like the Baltimore Ravens are going to give Rolando McClain a second chance. According to the NFL daily transaction report, the team reinstated McClain from the reserve/retired list on Thursday. McClain had been on the list since announcing his retirement in May.
It's an interesting move for the Ravens, who saw first-hand on Tuesday that McClain's not in football shape. The 24-year-old linebacker struggled during a workout for the team. McClain showed up late and when he finally got there, he couldn't finish his conditioning test. McClain also didn't do any of the drills he was supposed to do.
According to the Baltimore Sun, the conditioning test involved running 150-yards six times in a set amount of time. Players are required to run 25-yards up and back three times for a total of 150 yards.
The move to activate McClain comes just four days before the Ravens' offseason program begins. Baltimore's first team workout is on April 21 and the team may have activated McClain so that they could get him into football shape.
The Raiders made McClain the eighth overall pick in the 2010 NFL Draft. The linebacker lasted three seasons in Oakland before being released in April 2013. During his retirement, McClain took classes at the University of Alabama where he's majoring in family financial planning.
