Reed switches to Dunn as agent, prepared to leave Baltimore
Ravens safety Ed Reed has hired David Dunn as his agent, according to league sources.
Reed's financial advisors interviewed several agents and ultimate Reed chose Dunn, who represents close friends Reggie Wayne and Ray Lewis. Reed is prepared to leave Baltimore, where he has spent his entire career, if need be.
He spoke with Ravens officials recently and at this point is on the market and exploring other options. The possibility remains he could return to Baltimore, though that does not seem too likely at this point. Several teams have a need at safety that could pursue Reed, including the Dolphins, Patriots and Colts.
During the three-day negotiating window teams are not allowed to contact outside free agents directly, and thus, with many assuming Reed was still without an agent, some speculated he would miss out on this period of time to speak to teams. That is not the case.
Reed is considered by many to be the best safety in NFL history and he has spent his entire career with the Ravens. Bill Belichick has long been a fan of his work, Reed is very close with Colts coach Chuck Pagano from their time together in Baltimore and in college, and down in Miami, where Reed played college ball, the Dolphins are seeking leaders and help at safety.
The Ravens could end up losing Ray Lewis, who is retiring, and Reed in one swoop this offseason as they retool following a Super Bowl win. Baltimore is preparing for the free-agent defections of Paul Kruger and Cary Williams and dealt Anquan Boldin to San Francisco earlier today.
