Report: 49ers will try to chase Saints' Sean Payton after firing Jim Tomsula
The 49ers dumped Jim Tomsula and are going to go big-game hunting, with Sean Payton rumored as a possible candidate.
The 49ers unceremoniously dumped Jim Tomsula on Sunday night, ending the run for "Jimmy" in San Francisco after just one year. Now Jed York and Trent Baalke will go big-game hunting.
The first name rumored for a possible replacement? Saints coach Sean Payton.
According to a report from ESPN's Adam Schefter, the 49ers are "expected to explore the idea of hiring" Payton to replace Tomsula.

The biggest obstacle here is Payton's contract with the Saints.
The Saints will probably want some sort of compensation for Payton assuming they don't release him from his contract in an attempt to do a full-blown reboot.
If they want something like a first-round pick it might be difficult to see the 49ers pull the trigger. On the other hand, the York family saw what happened when you miss badly on a coaching candidate so maybe we're about to get a very spicy coaching search.
The Cardinals, however, don't sound enthused about his return
