Report: Aldon Smith in attendance at 49ers offseason workouts
For now, Aldon Smith continues on with his job with the 49ers.
Though there have been questions in the past week or so about whether linebacker Aldon Smith will play this season for the 49ers -- it also seems rather unlikely they'll exercise his fifth-year option -- that hasn't stopped Smith from working out with his teammates.
As noted by CSN Bay Area, Smith has been in Santa Clara for the start of the team's offseason workout schedule, despite the fact he was charged with falsely reporting a bomb threat earlier this month.
But reporter Matt Maiocco makes a good point here.
"If the 49ers had no intention of allowing Smith to play this season, it's questionable whether they would allow him to take part in the team’s offseason program," he wrote.
It seems as though, as long as Smith stays out of trouble (which has been tough for him lately), he very well could play for San Francisco this year. He is, after all, a really good player, and the team let him play last season almost immediately after he was charged with DUI and before he went off to rehab.
Of course, the NFL will have its say, as well, meaning the league could suspend him at some point for all of his off-field behavior.
