Report: Bills' Marcell Dareus facing 3 misdemeanor charges after car race
Marcell Dareus is facing three misdemeanor charges after being arrested on May 30 in Hamburg, NY.
For the second time in less than a month, Bills defensive tackle Marcell Dareus is facing charges after an arrest. According to the Buffalo News, Dareus was arrested on May 30 in Hamburg, N.Y., after reports of car racing.
Dareus is facing three misdemeanor charges and four traffic charges stemming from the incident. The misdemeanor charges include: reckless endangerment, reckless driving and participating in an illegal speed contest.
The Pro Bowl defensive lineman is also facing traffic charges of speeding, failure to keep right, leaving the scene of a property damage accident and moving from a lane unsafely.
The reckless endangerment charge is the most serious of the seven charges. A guilty conviction on the Class A misdemeanor charge can lead to one year in jail.
Two days before his latest arrest, Dareus explained that he's not a problem, "I'm not a trouble guy," Dareus said. "We sat and talked. [The Bills] believe in me and I'm ready to move forward."
The May 30 arrest was Dareus' second time being arrested in the month May. The 24-year-old was also arrested on May 5 in Alabama. In that case, the third overall pick in the 2011 NFL Draft is facing felony charges of possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.
The Alabama arrest came less than two weeks after the Bills exercised the $8.06 million, fifth-year option for their 24-year-old defensive tackle.
The arrests aren't going to help Dareus' already precarious standing with the organization. In the final two weeks of the 2013 season, Dareus was benched by coach Doug Marrone for violating team rules. Dareus sat out the first quarter of Week 16 and missed the entire first half in Week 17.
