Report: Broncos 'expressed interest' in Revis; CB wants 'resolution ASAP'
The Broncos have reportedly 'expressed interest' in Darrelle Revis and the cornerback's camp wants a 'resolution ASAP.'
'Tis the season for silly speculation, and with Jets cornerback Darrelle Revis squarely on the trading block -- despite what Rex Ryan would try to tell you -- there's a crazy amount of rumors surrounding what teams could be interested.
For starters, though, let's point out that everyone should "express interest" in Revis. Even if you're a non-contending club with no cap room, your GM should be calling John Idzik to inquire about a potential swap. It never hurts to ask.
Having said that, the Broncos could make sense. They've been aggressive in acquiring high-profile players under John Elway, and they're currently employing an aging cornerback who turned out to be a steal of a trade in Champ Bailey. Bailey's 34 and while Elway has said he won't move the cornerback to safety, pairing Revis with Chris Harris and Champ would really beef up the secondary.
The standard slew of Revis-trade caveats applies here: Revis' health is a concern, his contract status is a concern and, yes, everyone should be interested in landing him.
It appears the Revis camp is a little worried that after free agency fires up, there will be fewer suitors, though. Cimini reports Revis' camp "is pushing for a resolution ASAP" because they don't want a pile of teams who need secondary help to wade out into the market and fill those needs by signing free-agent players like Sean Smith, Brent Grimes and Aqib Talib.
And, of course, it may all be simply rampant speculation. According to Jeff Legwold of the Denver Post, the Broncos have "NO intention" of trying to trade for Revis.
I have known many in this business for a long time and respect them immensely, but the Broncos have NO intention of acquiring Revis.— Jeff Legwold(@Jeff_Legwold) March 10, 2013
