Report: Cardinals LB Daryl Washington arrested
Arizona Cardinals linebacker Daryl Washington was arrested on Friday for allegedly assaulting his ex-girlfriend. Washington was charged with two counts of aggravated assault.
Arizona Cardinals linebacker Daryl Washington was arrested on Friday on two counts of aggravated assault, according to KSAZ-TV, a Fox-affiliate in Arizona. Washington had been under investigation since Wednesday for allegedly assaulting his ex-girlfriend.
Washington's ex-girlfriend called police Wednesday afternoon and said she had been assaulted inside her apartment. When police arrived, they found marks on the throat of the alleged female victim.
"From the police presence that was out there, it seemed pretty sad to know that someone like that was that badly sick," a neighbor of the alleged victim said about the incident.
According to the ex-girlfriend, she got into an argument with Washington that ended with the Cardinals linebacker choking her. Washington and his ex-girlfriend have a five-year-old child together and according to court documents obtained by the Fox-affiliate, the alleged victim was not letting Washington see the child and was "making demands for money in return for parenting time."
The arrest only adds to Washington's recent woes. The fourth-year player will be sitting out the first four games of the 2013 season after being suspended in early April for violating the league's substance abuse policy.
Washington's problems are obviously bad news for the Cardinals, who signed their former second-round pick to a six-year, $32.5 million contract extension in September.
